The Journey Thoughts

"But you, man of God, run from these things, and pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for
the faith; take hold of eternal life that you were called to and have made a
good confession about in the presence of many witnesses. In the presence of
God, who gives life to all and of Christ Jesus, who gave a good confession
before Pontius Pilate,  I charge you to keep the command without fault or
failure until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Timothy 6:11-14
At first blush, when you read the above scriptures, you might think that
this could possibly be a "works" issue, as we are told to run from some
things, and pursue other things.  Prior to this Paul tells Timothy that he
is to run from "harmful desires," and pursue those things listed. But take
another read, and listen to what we are to run to.  These are attributes,
and they involve a life turned around and lived by choice with our goal of
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.  And I
must say, after reading and studying 1 Corinthians 13, I have to believe
that love is the fuel that propels all of these virtues. How can we become
righteous without love?  How can we pursue godliness without love?  When I
think of it, I have to believe that you and I can pursue these things only
if we choose to.  And not to pursue them, is pursuing something else, that
which we are to run from.  So how can I encourage you to "fight the good
fight for the faith?" Fighting the good fight involves surrendering to the
Lord, the control that we have to do things ourselves.  It involves
petitioning and standing firm in faith, when all things around us want us to
abandon our faith.  Let's face it, we are in a fight, a fight that we cannot
win, but Jesus can, and already has, by defeating death which certainly
Satan wanted Him to face, but he wasn't counting on Jesus coming alive
again.  He didn't believe that would be, for he claimed victory over the
world. But when Jesus rose from the dead, Satan lost.  He might be working
hard to keep you focused on the world, but once you come to the faith, he
can no longer have you.  But you still must fight the carnal man. You must
fight to desires that still exist within you.  You must fight the desires
that have permeated our society, and have produced an envy within us
believers, to want some of the same.  But let's be honest.  Will those
things make us truly happy?  Will they fulfill the burning within our hearts
for eternity?   Let' start by making sure that our choices involve the Lord.
Let's be in the fight, making our stand with our confession of faith.  We
have opportunity every day to make a confession of faith to someone.
Perhaps today will be your day. You and I have been given a charge, and that
charge is to keep the command, and the command is not a works command, but a
choice command as to how I will live this day.  I will make a choice to live
for Christ today. I will make a choice to love one that comes before me that
is not that loveable.  I will make a choice to endure when the pressures of
life or health beat me to the ground. I will make a choice to be gentle,
when everything within me wants to strike out.  This one I need prayer for,
because the injustice of the world, especially against Christianity, makes
my blood boil, but just as Christ stood before Pilate, humble, and faithful,
I will choose to stand before rejection, persecution, insults, and hate.  I
will love when everything inside me wants to hate.  I will choose to be more
like Christ and less like me.  I will do this, not because I want to earn
something in eternity, but because I want to be like Him, who gave all for
me.  I love Him for that, and I know that you do too.  Let's make a choice,
one day at a time, to pursue the good fight and stand tall for Jesus today.

Pastor Andy

Precious Lord and Savior, I want to stand for You this day, but I know that
I need You to fight the battles for me, for I am too weak to fight on my
own.  I surrender control over my own flesh, and ask you to take that
control, and lead me and all who read this, through this day.   I pray for
Frank who has cancer, and David, who has health issues. I pray for Kelly's
son, who is struggling with believing in You.  I pray you capture his heart.
I pray for: little Samantha, and her father, Shane.  Lord would You do a
miraculous work in her. I pray for Dwight, who is a strong warrior, but
needs Your strength.   I pray for Shelly's mother, who may face a surgery to
get some of her sight back.  Lord, please be her sight, and let her see
things others cannot. I pray for Ramona, who is fighting the good fight, and
her husband Ben. I pray for Sharon and Bob, Pat, Robert, Shannon, Jack,
Macy, Marc, Eric, Ashley, Chris, Colleen, Gavin, Gary, Scott, April,
Carolyn, Joanna, Amber, Dorothy, Tim's mother, Mike, S., Mike P., Carmello,
Katelyn, Asher, Hunter, Zoey, Caitlyn, Kristen, BJ, Dave, Ida, JV, Nada,

Peggy, Ada, Harriet, Joanne, Cynthia, Danny Jennifer, Fred, Dotty, Megan,

Bethany, Tim, Michelle, Jeff, Laura. I pray for deliverance for the boys at
the State School, and I pray that you will strengthen our hearts today for
the battle set before us.  May we press on toward the prize of the high
calling You have chosen us for in Christ, and whose name I pray in.  Amen.
