The Journey Thoughts

August 10, 2016

Do you believe that God is working in you right now, molding you, teaching
you, correcting you, and even disciplining you?  He does this because He
wants us to be a wonderful light who shines in the world, a hope that can
never fade away.  He does so to strengthen us and teach us, so that we too,
can become teachers.  Even though the Christian community was being divided
in Philippi, Paul was encouraged that so many were strengthened by their
faith in Christ.  His own belief formed the basis of his optimism for these
brothers and sisters in Christ. He would write to them: "So then, my dear
friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now
even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and
trembling. For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to desire
and to work out His good purpose. Do everything without grumbling and
arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are
faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like
stars in the world."  Philippians 2: 12-15   Like the song says, "every move
you make, every step you take, I'll be watching you." We are being watched
by the world; some will watch so that they can argue with us; some will
watch so that they can learn from us; some will watch so that they can
persecute us, yet all who call themselves Christian, will shine like a star
in the world.  We will be lights that shine in a dark place.  We will be
hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, assistance to the weary, for we
represent One who is our strength and hope.  We are representatives of the
One who will use us to proclaim His message to the world, regardless of the
setting he puts us in.    I was watching the Olympics again the other day,
and observed the synchronized platform divers.  The two Americans, who did
very well, stated on air that it was their life in Christ that made them who
they are.  What a statement! What a light!  What an opportunity to shine for
the world who was watching to see the love and fellowship those two had
together and in Christ.   I do believe that we all must be teachers who have
been given the blessed opportunity to teach all those around us about the
love that is found in Christ.  We are to teach where our strength and our
hope come from, so that they too, when to the point of hopelessness, can see
that even in their situation they can find hope in Christ.  The Writer of
Hebrews admonishes his readers with, "Although by this time you ought to be
teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God's
revelation again."  Heb. 5:12  Why is it that we can go to school for four
years and become a teacher of students?  Why is it we can become parents at
a very young age, and be expected to be teachers of our children? Why then
is it, that we can study the bible through classes and bible study, for
years, and still do not feel qualified to teach?  Brothers and sisters, God
is working in you, and you have all you need to submit to Him for His will
and purpose for your life.  You are stars that shine in the universe, lights
that permeate the darkness of this generation.  You are, even if you don't
think you are, for you are in Christ, and He is your strength.  It doesn't
come from you, so there is no need to think that you don't possess the
capability to shine for Christ.  He is your light! He is your words! He is
your action!  You can be all that He wants you to be today, and every day on
this journey, for you have graduated and now are capable in Christ to go out
from your security, go out from you self imposed sanctuary, for you are a
light, that shines like stars in the world.

Pastor Andy
