The Journey Thoughts

August 18, 2016

Have you ever experienced a "season of refreshing?"  This scripture comes
from Acts during the time after Pentecost, when Peter and John went to the
temple complex during the hour of prayer.  They happened upon a lame man,
that Peter grabbed by the hand and healed him in the name of Jesus.  All the
people were amazed at what happened, and gathered around Peter and John,
perhaps out of curiosity, or for the self-centered thoughts of what could
they be granted if they asked.  Peter used this opportunity to tell them
this: "But what God predicted through the mouth of all the prophets - that
His Messiah would suffer- He has fulfilled in this way. Therefore repent and
turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing
may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, who has
been appointed for you as the Messiah. Heaven must welcome Him until the
times of the restoration of all things, which God spoke about by the mouth
of His holy prophets from the beginning." Acts 3:18-21 Are we still in
seasons of refreshing?  The answer is an astounding YES!  Times such as last
night, during life group, when we have intimate discussions about our faith,
our Lord, our lives, and we are refreshed.  It's times like a personal
one-on-one times, when in the presence of a close brother or sister, that
you are refreshed by the Holy Spirit and the fellowship of another.  It's
times like a Sunday morning, when worship is particularly moving, and your
heart is lifted to heights that makes you feel as if you could see God
Himself.  Seasons of refreshing, when after being battle weary through a
week of trials, and you sit alone with the Word, and just let the Holy
Spirit minister to your needs, and He fills your heart with gladness, and
more joy that you can even comprehend.  I write about this season of
refreshing, because I want you to recognize that you are in a season of
refreshing.  It's all around you, and is yours for the asking, by you
entering a place in which you allow the Holy Spirit to lead.   Almost every
morning, when I get up to write this journey, I am blessed to enter into a
season of refreshing once again.   In Luke 24 there is a story of two men
walking on a road. The time of the happening is the morning of the third day
after Jesus was crucified.  As they were walking, a stranger walked up to
them.  It was Jesus, but they did not realize it at the time. The stranger
talked to them about Jesus, and how He had to suffer and then enter His
glory.  When they got to their destination, they invited Him in to eat with
them.  When he reclined at the table, and took the bread and broke it and
gave it to them, their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He
disappeared.  I love what they said: "So they said to each other, 'Weren't
our hearts ablaze within us while He was talking with us on the road and
explaining the Scriptures to us?"  They were experiencing a season of
refreshing.  So today, I want to encourage you, by asking you to let your
heart soar with Christ, and experience a season of refreshing, that can be
yours not only today, but each day for the rest of your life on this earth,
and then eternity.   It is a season of refreshing because we have been given
the Holy Spirit to keep us refreshed, even in the face of trials.  So let
your hearts be set ablaze with the presence of our Lord, through His Holy
Spirit, and may you soar with the eagles today.
