The Journey Thoughts

August 24, 2016

Here is a sobering Scripture that I hope we can plant in our hearts: "For it
is impossible to renew to repentance those who were once enlightened, who
tasted the heavenly gift, became companions with the Holy Spirit, tasted
God's good word and the powers of the coming age, and who have fallen away,
because, to their own harm, they are recrucifying the Son of God and holding
Him up to contempt. For ground that has drunk the rain that has often fallen
on it and that produces vegetation useful to those it is cultivated for
receives a blessing from God. But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is
worthless and about to be cursed, and will be burned at the end."  Hebrews
6: 4-8  This has produced a lot of commentary about eternal sanctification,
or falling away, from that which we were once saved in.  But the truth is
found that there are a few different possibilities for the meaning of these
verses.  Because of what the writer says next, to me, solidifies the intent
with which he writes the previous verses, for he says, "in your case we are
confident of the better things connected with salvation."  v9  I think
explanation would be something like, ' I will tell you that could have
assurance of staying alive today, but if you went out to play on a busy
rush hour freeway, you would not be able to stay alive."  It is a true
statement, but who would want to go out and play on a busy rush hour
freeway.  It relays a message of what could happen to a person IF they did
something that people just don't do.  Salvation changes you!  The
impossibility to renew to repentance was more of a confirmation that a
warning.  It confirmed that "we are confident of the better things connected
with salvation."  For sure IF that would happen, a person would be in a
miserable state, but it would not happen to the believer who has been
changed by the Lord. Ground that is planted and cultivated, will produce a
crop, for it is watered from the rain and cultivated by those who have
planted the right way.  I can't imagine a crop sown, watered, cultivated,
and cared for producing only thorns and thistles, but IF it did, it would be
worthless, but you don't have to worry, for it has been watered, cultivated
and cared for.  Christian, once you received the Word of God in your heart,
and have tasted the heavenly gift, and know that the Holy Spirit lives in
you, you have been saved for eternity.  The Lord Himself says, "I will never
leave you, or forsake you."   It is a good saying to let someone know the
worth of their salvation.  But if you believe that you can lose your
salvation, because of the way you play in the world, the answer of course is
to be careful how you play.  I know that even some of you readers might
believe this way, and it would be difficult for me to try to persuade you
that this is not the case, but here is the answer:  We are to work out our
salvation with fear and trembling. (Phil. 2: 12) If we believe that we are
once saved, always saved, let's not take that salvation for granted, for we
have been changed, and we are to allow the Holy Spirit access to the control
of our lives, and live like a believer. If we believe that we can lose our
salvation, then once again live like a believer.  The point of no matter
which camp you come to understand, you have to be true to your heart, and
live the way that Christians are supposed to live, not by works that we feel
we have to produced, or we are going to be shut out of heaven, but by the
grace so freely poured out for us.  That is a life, lived in love with God,
through Christ, because He loved us so much, our desire should be for Him,
and not for our own pleasure.  We are to live by faith, in the Son of God,
who loved us, and still today loves us, and who is with us every day.  We
can be assured that we never have to worry about the meaning of the above
verses, by drawing nearer to the Lord, by listening to the Holy Spirit, and
staying continually surrendered to His will for our lives.   For is we stay
close to Him, there is no difference, for we all are continually - in

Heavenly Father, Lord, my heart knows the answer to the verses, for in it,
Your Spirit cries out for dedication to God. He works within us, to take
from You and give to us.  I know that!  I pray Father, that we all would
understand that Your desire for us is eternal, for the love you have for us,
was demonstrated, through Christ.   I plead for You to continually change us
by drawing us closer to You every day. I pray for these I list, to ask you
to draw them closer to You today.  May they be comforted, strengthened,
established, and sealed in You through whatever circumstance they find
themselves in today.  So I lift to You: Linda and her family, Don, Dwight,
