The Journey Thoughts

August 26, 2016

I just finished a memorial service for a young man, who the Lord took home
at an early age.  As I looked out into the packed church, I saw a sea of
people, that I knew represented both saved and unsaved people.  I wondered
how I was going to make sense out of this, to so many that could not face
the reality of God.  Yet, what do they come to see?  Do they come just to
pay respects for the family, the young man, or to look for answers to their
own mortality.   How can a heart share the things of God with another heart
that cannot see spiritually?  How could I help them see the very kingdom of
God.  A time in Scripture, the Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God
would come. He replied: "The kingdom of God is not coming with something
observable; no one will say, 'Look here!' or 'There!' For you see, the
kingdom of God is among you. Then He told the disciple: 'The days are coming
when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you won't
see it. They will say to you, 'Look there!' or Look here!' Don't follow or
run after them. For as the lightning flashes from the horizon to horizon and
lights up the sky, so the Son of Man will be in His day." Luke 17: 20-24
The faith that we have to share is clearly among us.  The kingdom of God is
generations of saved people, living by faith in Jesus.  He is right here
among us through the Spirit, and there can be no other observation other
than to see with spiritual eyes. But one has to want to believe; has to want
to know this Lord, whose Holy Spirit lives among us, and in us, and guides
us on this journey.  The presence of God is clearly here, for He reveals
Himself to us daily in so many ways.  Now that is not to be confused with
the second coming of Christ. Even though the kingdom of heaven is among us,
and we cannot see it other than with hearts of faith, the physical appearing
of the Lord a second time will be for everyone.  Jesus tells us when people
say, "Look there!' or "Look here!' we are not to believe them, for even
though the kingdom of God exists on this earth, it is in the hearts of
believers.  But the physical return of Christ will be so spectacular that no
one will miss it.  He would go on to tell them a saying considered a wise
truth at the time, and still is: "Where the corpse is, there also the
vultures will be gathered."  v37  That's revealing a truth that we see even
to this day.  When you are driving on a road and you see a bunch of
vultures, you know there is a dead something around.  You know it, even if
you don't see the corpse.  When the Son of Man returns to earth, we will all
see it.  Things will happen: Two will be in bed, one will be taken, and one
left; two will be grinding, one will be taken and one left; two will be in a
field, one will be taken and one left.  Jesus used these as signs to a
generation that sees these things, and will know that the Son of Man is on
His way.  But meanwhile, we wait in faith, and we realize that God is moving
in the hearts of His people to bring others to Himself.  He will even use a
memorial service to do so.  Christian! You are a representation of the
kingdom of heaven right here, while we walk this journey, and even though
others will think you crazy at times, you live because He lives; you speak,
because He prompts you through the Spirit; you love because He loves through
you.  You reveal the kingdom of God that can grow and flourish in a world
where not many want to hear about it.  Oh, sure, they would love for us to
prove that the kingdom of God is right here, right now, and this becomes the
opportunity to reveal His glory through our testimony, and the faith we have
that those we love, that have preceded us, are now with Him in all His
glory.  That's what I see when I look out at a sea of people, opportunities
to reveal the love of God found in Christ, as we all patiently wait His
return.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, please reveal Your glory to those who struggle with belief
of You.  Please let You kingdom on earth be revealed through the hearts of
believers everywhere, and may we manifest You eternal glory, so that they
will see.  I pray for Your return, but while we wait, may we be examples of
faith in a faithless society.  May we be streams of water to those who are
thirsty, and may we be nourishment to those who are hungry for the truth.  I
pray for all today Lord, who need Your comfort: Linda and her family, Don,
Dwight, Sammi, Lynn, Jackie Ann, the Reed family, the Foster family, Adrian,
Tuly, Tyler, Kristen, Trevor, Terry's dad, Tim's mother, Shelly's mother,
