The Journey Thoughts

August 31, 2016

Last night I watched a show about men, who go fishing every day on the coast
of Oregon.  They have been doing so for generations.  That within itself, is
not the problem. The problem is that in this particular place, they have to
face very dangerous breaker waves to get out to the place where they are
doing their crabbing.   The show talked about how many were lost over the
years to these waves, yet generation after generation continues to go out to
do their profession, and provide for their families.  One told of how his
father taught him to read the waves, to know how they will react, and you
will stay alive, to never take them for granted.  This reminded me of
Scripture this morning found in Jude.  For the Bible says: "These are the
ones who are like dangerous reefs at your love feasts. They feast with you,
nurturing only themselves without fear. They are waterless clouds carried
along by winds; trees in late autumn - fruitless, twice dead, pulled out by
the roots; wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shameful deeds; wandering
stars for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever!  Jude v11.
Who are these he is talking about?  Earlier he writes that these are: "For
some men, who were designated for this judgment long ago, have come in by
stealth; they are ungodly, turning the grace of our God into promiscuity and
denying Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord." v4   When I think of these
dangerous reefs, my mind remembers those who have tried to enter into the
church, but it seems only to divide the fellowship. They are so concerned
only about their own intelligence, they have forgotten to mention the grace
so poured out by Christ Himself.  They are the hidden stones under the
breakers, that cause the turbulence within the fellowship,  and their desire
is not to reason for the cause of Christ, but to divide for their own glory.
What they promote is like the waterless cloud, that may give a little shade
in the heat of summer, but do not bring any life-giving rain. They are the
fruitless plants, that for one thing, provide no purpose of existence,
except to take up space and to infiltrate within the hearts of anyone
willing to listen to them.  And then they produce no spiritual fruit for the
sake of Christ.  Do you have those in your fellowship?  I pray not, for they
come in pretty much in stealth, and reveal a good intent, but it doesn't
take long before they are found out.  You see, they promote a different
Christ other than the One from Scripture.  But you have to know the Christ
of Scripture to know who they are and what they are trying to do.  So many
people today, will not study the word, because they hear it on television,
they listen to it every Sunday morning, they read more of what men talk
about then they do the Word.  Even this journey, will suffice for some as
reading the word of God.  But if that were the case, I would stop writing
even today, if I thought that this was replacing the study of the word for
some people.  My brothers and sisters, this is to make you hungry to search
the Word, If I have promoted something other than the hunger for God's word,
then I have failed and I will stop.  But my calling, my goal, is the promote
Scripture to you every day, so that you will read the word.  Does it say to
you what it says to me?  If I have done my calling right it should line up
with Scripture.  It should make a yearning in your hearts to search
scripture to find out for yourself the truth contained therein.  This is the
only way we will be able to recognize those who bring a false message.  This
is the only way, we will be able to combat the false, with the truth, by
knowing beyond all doubt the truth of our Lord and Savior Jesus.  For He is
the One who gets me up each day to write, so that His word may be entered
once again, and keep a hunger in our hearts to read more, to know more, to
draw closer to Him.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father,  Please keep a fire going in the hearts of those who read
this, that they Father, would draw closer to You. I pray Father, that this
never keeps them from searching the truth of Your word, but instead makes a
hunger to know You more intimately.  Lord, please touch hearts this morning
by Your word, and as I lift these needing Your attention, please speak to
their hearts directly, so that they will be comforted by You.  So I lift to
