The Journey Thoughts

September 9, 2016

What do you see when you read books?  Do you paint a mental picture of the
scenes, and become actively involved with the characters, as they bring the
scenes to life.  I am by no means a book aficionado, but I do like to read,
and when I read, I can picture the scenes within my mind as if they were
actually happening.  This is not just with action or mystery books, although
I love to read Christian fiction too, which is like watching a Christian
movie unfold right before my eyes.  So what about the Bible?  Is it one of
those books that we can see acted out on the stage of our hearts or minds?
Take, for instance, this Scripture: "But be doers of the word and not
hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the
word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror.
For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man
he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and
perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works
- this person will be blessed in what he does."  James 1:22-25

Now we read that and immediately I find myself looking in a mirror. What do
I look like?  What are my features? Could I describe myself well enough from
memory to let an artist capture the true picture without looking at me, just
by my description?  Have I understood what the Scripture means in its true
sense, and can I understand and know that  what I read is a clear picture
within my heart of working because of faith, and not working for faith?  I
find that If I read the word of God and seek to understand its meaning, all
I have to do is look at the movie playing in my mind and in my heart.  I see
the things I do, whether they are done from a heart that feels it needs to
do something to be considered worthy by our Lord, or I see the things I am
doing, and realize that what I do, is brought on by the Love that I have for
this Lord, who saved me from myself, and from my sins.  His love is so
clearly pictured in my heart that I cannot escape, for the movie continues
daily. I see the evidence of things NOT seen by everyone.  I see the reality
of truth my heart holds so dear in Christ.  I know that even though I
stumble on a daily basis, I know who holds my hand, for I can see Him.  Not
in the  physical sense, but I see Him all around me, and His word is as
clear as if I came from His lips to my ears.  So I realize that when we read
Scripture, it is not as a good book, although it is.  It is not as an
interesting story, yet it is.  It is a time to capture, once again, the
heart of the Spirit who actively works within man to have him write all that
he hears and what he sees.   I can and am blessed in knowing that what I do,
I am participating in the wonderful journey homeward, in which I have an
active role, as well as you do.  We stay true as possible because it is the
truth that leaps from the words of the paper to the Spirit of truth that
lives inside.  It's like He is constantly saying, Yes! that's what I want
for you.  I want you to see that you can be all that I want you to be,
because you are loved by God.  I want you to be all that the word describes
fully, so that you will not only believe the truth, but that you will live
the truth.  My friends, don't get weary doing good things, for they come
from a heart that is sold out to the One who is the orchestrator of our
lives, through the movement and the guidance of His Holy Spirit.  For that I
want to live, and I know you do too. For that we can sing praises every day,
because we know that our walk is never alone, but always done in the company
of the One who walks with us. For that is a true story preserved within the
heart, and revealed daily for all to see.    Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reality of Your truth, for I believe it
with every fiber within me.  You know, Holy Father, that this truth lives in
me, and I pray for Your guidance when I want to deviate off the path of
truth.  I know You will bring me back to the reality of the picture You have
formed in my heart, as I journey onward.  I pray Lord, that You become the
very strength within those hurting. I pray that You be the truth, that is
reflected back when one of these takes a good look in the mirror, and needs
to see truth showing itself to them.  I pray then for: Malachi, Terry and
his dad, Tim's mother, Shelly's mother, the Reed Family, the Foster Family,
Pam and her son, Julissa and her friend, Kelly and her son, Richard and his

Jesus name.
