The Journey Thoughts

September 15, 2016

Had a wonderful visit with a couple last night, and we talked a lot about
the events that are happening around us. At one point this was read: "But
know this: Difficult times will come in the last days. For people will be
lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient
to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers,
without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good, traitors,
reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding
to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people."  2
Timothy 3:1-5   We are to "avoid these people," to not hang with those who
have a form of godliness, but deny its power.  But who are those who have
this form of godliness but deny its power?  They are those who believe that
all power is given to them.  They have the power to be happy or wealthy, or
content, and that contentment is usually in the form of prosperity.   They
don't truly love the masses but will use them for their own wealth
production, and even then are able to sell a product which makes the person
feel good about themselves.  We all want to do that, don't we?   But yet,
what is our life to be like as believers?  We know that Scripture tells us
we will suffer, and we are told to take up our cross and follow Jesus.   The
destination is not wealth, but eternity, and exists for those who have
endured through trials and suffering.  It is there for the person who has
put ALL their trust in Jesus, who has made Him Lord of their lives, and who
realize that within themselves there is no good thing, but in Christ, all
things are good, even the pain of trials.  I know it's so much easier to
want to believe that once we accept Christ, everything will be wonderful for
us.  We will be prosperous, without issues, without trials, without pain or
suffering, for you have the power to choose to have a good life or a bad
one.  You can choose the type of life, for you are in control of your own
destiny.   That may sound good to you, but I will have nothing of it. For
you see, We are trained by Scripture, and by the Holy Spirit to persevere
even in the face of suffering. We are told to deny self, not promote self.
We are told to put others before self, not self before all others.  We are
told to endure, not to call those who suffer, weak in faith.  Some
denominations have deviated from the truth so far that they are not
preaching the Christ of the bible, and I have no idea what Christ they are
teaching and preaching, but it isn't the one I learn about from Scripture.
It is not the One who comforts me when tragedy prevails over the norm.  He
is the One who holds my hand, and the One I would rather listen to that
listen to that which makes me feel good.   The ones who are described above
are those of the world who have denied the existence of God.  They not only
hate God, but want you and I to not even have the opportunity to tell others
about Him.   But there is also another group we have to watch out for.
Those who have a form of godliness but deny its power.  They deny its power
because they place the power in the individual.  You have the power, You
have the ability, but you and I know that without Christ we can do nothing,
that is nothing truly fruitful, for we will all, deviate back to the
self-centeredness that fights for control within us.  It's only when we
realize that we are but clay pots, needing the strength of the Lord to make
it through even one day. So today, I will once again, surrender this life,
this flesh to Christ and give over control to Him to guide me through trial
or temptation; to take me through the fire if necessary to purify me, for He
becomes our reason to live.

Pastor Andy

Before I bring my prayer forward, I want to let you know, that Mike P. lost
his mother in a head-on collision yesterday. His dad was careflighted and is
hanging on to life. Would you please lift up: Mike, Sharon, Marie, Sue, for
their father Tony. Would you keep them surrounded by prayer through the day.
This is suffering at its highest, and we hurt because they hurt.  We know
that our Lord will comfort their hearts, but we, who love them, must
petition the very doors of heaven to plead from our Father, to bring comfort
at such a time as this.   So I pray: Heavenly Father, please bring clarity
out of chaos; please make sense here for the family to surrender and trust
that You are in control of this situation.  Please touch them I pray, and
surround them with Your angels, to minister directly to their grieving
hearts.  I pray also for: Linda and her family, Don and Lynn, Dwight and
Sammi, Robbie, Tom's family, Ada, Nada, JV, Nancy, Paul, Judy, Betty H.,
Charlene, Malachi, Terry and his dad, Tim's mother, Shelly's mother, Reed
family, Foster family, Pam and her son, Julissa and her friend, Kelly and
her son, Richard and his father, Ben and family, Briggs church, Ben and

Amen.
