The Journey Thoughts

September 22, 2016

Can you see hope?  I used to think that I could, for I see a future, both
the one on this earth, and the one yet to come in eternity, that brings me
hope.  But yet when I go to Scripture, I read: "Now in this hope we were
saved, yet hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he
sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with
patience. In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness,
because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself
intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. And He who searches  the hearts
knows the Spirit's mind-set, because He intercedes for the saints according
to the will of God." Romans 8:24-27  But then I realize that what I see is
not hope, but a vision given by the Spirit to reassure me of His presence,
and His love for us, so I hope, and this hope is not in what I see, but in
WHO I see.  But then you might ask, "Can you see the Spirit of God?"  Well,
when I can look with true spiritual eyes, when my heart is so tuned in to
the things of the Lord, yes I see the activity of One who lives inside me.
It's like the blowing of the leaves.  What makes the leaves move?  Do they
move on their own?  No, but they are moved as the wind moves them.  I can't
see the wind, but I can see where it is, for I see the moving of the leaves.
I cannot see the Spirit directly, but I feel His presence.  I feel my heart
moving in different directions, not controlled by me, but by someone so much
greater than me.  It moves me in ways, that I wouldn't necessarily want to
move, because He is in control.  I love His control, and I HOPE for the
activity of the Spirit within me, to move even more every day, causing a
rustling of the heart, that seems to be like the leaf in the wind, with
purposeful direction.  So I continue to hope; I continue to pray for
movement that I can feel and touch, yet cannot see what it is that actually
drives the movement, but I know it is the Lord.  When my heart is too heavy
to pray, I feel the Holy Spirit taking over, and praying for me.  I know
that the petitions are landing on the Father, for they are delivered by the
very Spirit He sent to guide and walk with us.  I know, it sounds a little
like science fiction, and if you want to think that, I would only ask that
if you want to have a hope that sees, not the clear future, but the
reassurance of the future, the things unseen, then let the Spirit guide you
in this.  If you want to walk in the path of Christ, listen to the prompting
of the heart.  Don't resist the leading of the Spirit, but instead join in,
and move as the Spirit leads.  The closer you get to Him, the more you can
feel His presence.  The more you feel His presence, the more your hope
becomes reality.  He has taught patience to an impatient man; He has brought
peace to a restless spirit; He has brought reassurance to a doubting mind;
He has brought direction to one wandering around the desert.  He is the
Spirit of God, given to us, so that we can be assured that we are never
without God in this world, and who is guiding us on our journey to the
Father.  For that, the hope remains very much alive.
