The Journey Thoughts

September 23, 2016

We will have some very interesting discussions at times about eternal
security or the ability to lose our salvation.  I love those of both groups,
and although I love to discuss the thoughts of both camps, I don't like it
to be contentious, because our Lord loves us.  But I had to write, because I
need to share why I believe what I believe. Perhaps you believe differently,
and I'm ok with that, as long as you believe in the indisputable fact of
faith.  I believe because in my heart, I don't  believe Jesus would ever let
me fall too far away, because He says that He will never leave us or forsake
us.  So I know He is always there.  I also believe that He would take me
home before I would ever get to the point of denying the truth I live by.
But having said that, I can never deny, what every fiber of me believes, for
when Jesus saved me, it was an immediate transformation, of what I was
incapable of attaining.  It was supernatural.   So how could I every deny
the very heart I live with?  The Writer of Romans says this: "Who can
separate us from the love of Christ? Can afflictions or anguish or
persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
Because of You we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as
sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more than victorious
through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that not even death or life,
angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height
or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from
the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:35-39   If
nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ, then we will
never lose Him.  I know that some feel strongly that they must make sure
that they are living for Christ on a daily basis, and if they sin, they can
once again ask for forgiveness, and be set free again.  Does that not imply
that during the time before repentance again, there was lostness?  And if
lostness, then we would have been separated from the One who loves us so
much, and He already once turned his face away from sin, and it will no
longer be turned away because of our sin, for when we believe, we have been
set free from sin, because the penalty for it has already been paid.  Jesus
does not have to keep paying for it over and over.   He paid the penalty for
our sins, once for all, by nailing all past, present, and future sins, on
the cross.  But for those who may think that they can do anything they want
to, because they are already saved, I think you should think about what you
are doing if you purposely set out to play in the mud.  What is that saying
about your love of Christ?  What is that saying about your relationship with
Him? Even though we sin, we should feel awful about it, and repent as soon
as possible, so that there will not be any barrier to our relationship.   I
think I can assume that you want a good relationship with Jesus.  Remember,
it's not that we love Him, but that He loved us, and gave Himself for us.
That's the victory! That's the joy!  So be encouraged my friend, for you
believe in a Savior that is quite capable of keeping you from evil, if you
will only trust Him.  That's what gets me through each day.
