The Journey Thoughts

September 28, 2016

Last night I was having a discussion with a brother in Christ about First
Timothy.  Part of the discussion was about this: "First of all, then, I urge
that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for
everyone, for kings and all those in authority, so that we may lead a
tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it
pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the
knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God
and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself - a ransom for
all, a testimony at the proper time." 1 Timothy 2:1-6  How do we deal with
this during a time of such frustration with the king ( our leadership )?
Well, notice that the Scripture tells us that PETITIONS, PRAYERS,
INTERCESSIONS, and THANKSGIVING is to be made for everyone.  Our attitude is
that God placed all men and women on this earth to do His will.  He even
used Pharaoh for such a purpose.  If there was any time in history that we
need to be praying for our leadership, it is now.  When I think of what we
are going through as a country, and find myself getting frustrated with our
leadership, I am lead to the Lord, who continually is teaching me more about
His leadership, and not my idea of what He should be doing.  I realize that
in a country that seems to be falling apart, we can be frustrated and
political, and talk as much as needed about the cause of all this unrest,
and put it square in the lap of the king, yet what IF God, in all His glory,
put such a person in charge of our land, for our benefit, to show us, how
much we not only need to be following Him, but that when we put our hope in
human leadership, this is the result.  I can't help but think that our
prayers and petitions be made for our land, for our brothers sisters in
Christ, and for those who are wandering aimlessly around in the darkness.
We can take the attitude of frustration and work to make sure someone else
gets elected, but whoever does, will it end, just because someone new is in
power?  Will it not end, only when we return to the Lord, wholly, and fully?
Will it continue because we have failed to keep our first love first, and
our dedication to the Lord, and start to want to trust in men instead of God
for our survival and correction?  God have Israel a king, not because she
needed one, but because she wanted one.  She did not need a king, for God
was their king, and His leadership was sufficient for all.  Yet, through the
ages, we have not let go of that.  The kings God sent to Israel,  ( some
good and some bad) were men, sent to reveal to Israel that man could not
lead like God could, but they did not listen, and look where it took them.
Are we any better today? Yes, we will have a king, a new president elected
this year, and we need to petition God with all that we are, to put one in
who will be responsive to Him, and not himself, or herself.  We are to
reveal to all we can, and speak to, that our true king, Jesus, is still the
One who is in control of our lives. And I pray that this is more than just a
statement, but a truth that you live with.  Let's make sure that all of us
get out and vote, and vote God's way, not your own emotions.  But to not
vote because you don't like either candidate, is not taking responsibility.
We need to start today, and pray daily, for God to reveal His will to us;
petition Him daily for the right heart to be put on the job, and intercede
for all who are in leadership, by constant prayer for the Lord to restore
our land to a place where we can worship in peace, talk about Christ in
peace, and promote Christ to all. But alas, I believe that will only come
with our hearts being changed, and us being willing to proclaim Christ,
regardless of the circumstances that we find ourselves in. For that is what
pleases God!

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, please talk to us!  Let us know that You are still active
in this nation, and You have not turned Your back on us.  We believe that
You are desiring for believers to worship You in spite of being pushed to
cease doing that.  We believe You are trying to get our attention to turn
back to You, instead of putting our hope and trust in man.  I want to serve
You and You alone, and I pray that You will fill our hearts with the desire
to focus on You and no other.  I pray that You make our land healed. I pray
that You touch these who I list to You, for healing, comfort, right
relationships, peace, and strength to stand against all odds.  So I pray
for: Tony, Mike and his family, Linda, Don, Lynn, Dwight, Sammi, Isabel,
Angie, Vanessa, Malachi, Corbin, Ryan, Olivia, Jeremiah, Joanna, Tom,
Evelyn, Joy, Ruth, Robbie, Ada, Nada, JV, Nancy, Betty H., Terry and his
