Feed My Sheep

September 30, 2016

It is a great responsibility to feed sheep, for that is the job of the
shepherd.   Jesus would tell Peter when he reinstated him to, "Feed my
sheep", and "Feed my lambs."  In Jeremiah's time, he was given a prophetic
message that would still be appropriate for today.  Here is the message:
"Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture! This
is the Lord's declaration. Therefore, this is what the Lord, the God of
Israel, says about the shepherds who shepherd My people: You have scattered
My flock, banished them, and have not attended to them. I will attend to you
because of your evil acts - this is the Lord's declaration. I will gather
the remnant of My flock from all the lands where I have banished them, and I
will return them to their grazing land. They will become fruitful and
numerous. I will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them. They
will no longer be afraid or dismayed, nor will any be missing. This is the
Lord's declaration." Jeremiah 23: 1-4  Jesus was called the Good Shepherd,
for that is what He is, and when He gave Peter the job of taking care of His
sheep, He was stating this for him, and for all who would come after, who
have the calling to, "Feed My sheep."   So with this prophecy, we can learn
something.  There will be shepherds who do not take proper care of the
sheep, and there are some believers who are scattered because of it.  Yet,
God knows those who are scattered.  When persecution came right after
Pentecost, the sheep were scattered, and wherever they were scattered, the
Word of the Lord went, for God was with them, and they were guided by the
Holy Spirit. We have only to read about greats like Philip: "So those who
were scattered went on their way preaching the message of good news." Acts
8:4  All those who received the Word were saved, some were called to be,
"apostles, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, for the training of
the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ."
Ephesians 4:11-12  Every one of us has a responsibility with that which God
has both equipped us and called us to, as representatives of His, in this
world.   I don't know what your gift is, for that is what God assigns, not
me.  I think sometimes, people want to be called to a position or job within
the fellowship, but are not called to what they think they want to be called
to.  It is important to listen to the Holy Spirit to that which you were
called to.  I know that the call to be a pastor, a shepherd is a tremendous
responsibility, and daily I agonize that I am doing it right.  I must
continue to empty self, so that the Spirit can lead.  I have to learn
patience, for the sheep do not desire to be lead very often.  I have learned
perseverance, so that in spite of what seems like an eternity to accomplish,
I must walk on, keeping the faith, even when my flesh fails me.  I must push
through trials and to try to help the sheep through the fires that spring up
with the trials poured out on mankind for the sake of growing us all.  I
most of all have to stay humble, realizing that within myself, there is
nothing that I can do of myself, but only God, who through His Spirit can
train a softened heart.  I write this today, to those who God has called to
some form of ministry.  You have been given a great and blessed task.  Don't
be afraid of it, but be humbled by it, so that He can work in You to bring
about His will, not only for you, but for all of those who you will touch
through those gifts and calling.  Fight the good fight, and know that you
are being prayed for to continue what God has placed in your heart for the
accomplishment of spreading His love throughout the world, for such a time
as this.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father,  I pray for all of those who You have called to shepherd in
one way or another.  I ask Lord, that all who read this pray for those You
have placed in such responsibilities.  I pray Father, that Your will would
be accomplished and that You will still be THE Shepherd, who guides us all,
and helps us to understand that it is only through Jesus that we can
undertake such a task.  I pray for those who, by their suffering, can be
given a gift for the benefit of strengthening Your people during times of
trials.  Lord, help us to surrender to You. I pray specifically for: Mike
and his family, Linda and her family, Don and Lynn, Dwight and Sammi,  the
Foster family, the Reed family and those who have suffered loss, that You
