The Journey Thoughts

October 7, 2016

If you want to cook a meal in the oven, you first must turn on the oven.
Sounds simple, yet we take for granted the things required before we do
anything.  If I am going to the Dentist, and he has to fill my tooth, I
FIRST want him to put it to sleep.  When we take off on a journey we must
first start the car.  Everything we do must start with something FIRST, that
propels us toward the fulfillment of that journey.  The Bible tells us not
to worry, not only about our life but about  everything.   Matthew records
Jesus teaching them about worry: " Can any of you add a single cubit to his
height by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the
wildflowers of the field grow: they don't labor or spin thread. Yet I tell
you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these!
If that's how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and
thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won't He do much more for you - you of
little faith? So don't worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we
drink?' or 'What will we wear?' For the idolaters eagerly seek all these
things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first
the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be
provided for you."  Matthew 6:27-33  How many times do we worry about things
that on the scope of eternity seem so small, yet we worry, because we don't
know how to fix them?  But Jesus says, "Seek ye FIRST," the kingdom of God.
We are to be more concerned about our relationship with our Lord, than we
are about what we will eat, drink, or wear.  Sure food and clothing is
important and is considered the main NEEDS.  But Jesus challenges our
thinking and tells us that He knows that's what our needs are, but if we
think of those things, we start to worry, and put our focus on what we need
instead of trusting in Who will supply.  I know this is a great test of
faith, but isn't that what trust is all about. Have you ever gone hungry,
without anything to eat or drink.  You might think you have, yet, I doubt
that you have ever been hungry like the orphans in Africa, or Haiti.  I
doubt we have every experienced need like that which exists in parts of the
world today.  But yet, even the orphan has something on him, and through
people who have sought the Lord FIRST, they were called to go feed them who
needed food and drink.  God's plan, not ours, yet do we attribute this to
God?  He is the One who placed the missionary. He is the One who allowed the
situation, so that we would act, but how can we act, when we are so focused
on ourselves?  I am not saying that you have to go to the mission field, but
how would you know if you were called there or not, unless you seek FIRST
the kingdom of God, and His righteousness.  He says when we do that all will
be provided for us.  Whether it is provision for us personally, or provision
for us to provide for someone else, God will bring it to pass. So have you
awoken with worry in your heart today?  If so, what is it you are worrying
about.  Did you pray? Did you seek Him FIRST? Did you desire to be known by
God more than you wanted your self to be fulfilled?  If you have, you have
been more than filled, for He is the One who completes us, to makes us in to
what He wants us to be.  I love being molded by God, even though at  times,
it is painful.  The results are always more filled with joy than any
possible thing I could think of doing myself.   The indicator you will need
to know when your mind is not focused properly on the Lord?  Worry! So
today, let's seek FIRST His kingdom and His righteousness, and watch what
will happen to your day.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, forgive us when we fail to put ALL our trust in You. Please
be merciful and patient with us, as I know that You are.  But I will ask
anyway, for I know the fickleness of the heart, and when we ask, we want
something from You.  Today, I pray for us to seek You FIRST.  I pray that
You will draw all of us closer to You. I pray for the ill, the injured, the
