The Journey Thoughts

October 11, 2016

Yesterday, one of you readers asked for prayer for a Pastor's brother who is
suffering from Pancreatic cancer. His name is Jerry and his wife is Nancy.
Please lift this family up in prayer.  Too often I get requests for prayer
for those loved ones with cancer.  And I wonder why our world is affected so
by this disease that honestly has no good cure. Sure some people overcome it
for a while, and some, by the will of the Father, have been freed from it,
while others are allowed to suffer from the devastating effects of it.  When
you think of it, you realize that this is one of those diseases that
requires a great deal of trust in the Lord.  Even while we suffer; we are
healed; or perhaps just given more time left on this earth to live with it,
knowing that it is growing somewhere in the body.  I have a great deal of
faith when it comes to healing, but have grown to understand that healing
always comes, and yet sometimes it comes on this side of eternity, and
sometimes when we step into eternity. Either way, we are healed, and not
only from cancer, but from everything else that has plagued us. So we
continue to pray, for healing, for comfort, for strength to make it through
just one more day.  We pray for our caregivers, who helplessly watch and
pray with us and for us.  So, here is a word of encouragement for you who
suffer, or you who wait with those who suffer, all the while suffering
yourself: "So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above,
where the Messiah is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on what
is above, not on what is on the earth. For you have died, and your life is
hidden with the Messiah in God. When the Messiah, who is your life, is
revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory."  Colossians
3:1-4  I know that we are to fight those things that plague us, but we also
are to turn them over to the Lord, because we have them for a reason.  Paul
would write to the Philippian church: "I know both how to have a little, and
I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the
secret of being content - whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance
or in need. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me."
Philippians 4:12-13   So, my brothers and sisters, those of you who pray,
pray with your heart, in the Spirit, that the Lord would grant strength, and
healing for those who suffer from the ravages of disease.  Pray that you,
who are afflicted, be given the heart of testimony of trusting the Lord with
whatever is going on in you.  It's ok to pray for healing, but trusting is
an even greater thing, because of His great love for us, and our love for
Him.  We place those we love into the hands of a marvelous Savior, who
understands our weakness, and who cares immensely for us, even in the time
of our greatest need.  I will always wonder why some are pelted by the rains
of illness and disease and others are not.  So many of my brothers in
Vietnam, suffer the effects of agent orange, and while I was also in the
thick of this stuff, I have not.  I wonder, when I look back on my life, why
certain things happened to me, and not to others.  I wonder, but am not
angry, for I know that no matter what happens to any of us, God has never
left our side.  The Spirit of the Living God, has never walked away from us.
I also believe that He prays when we cannot; He moves boulders that stand in
our journey, before we even see them; He allows some things to continue on
in us, for the glory of Him who called us, and saved us.  And for that I
will continue to petition Him for all who ask, and I will ask from the
heart, for Him to be glorified in your life, through whatever circumstance
you find yourself in. I will pray for that comfort that will allow you to
lift your eyes and see the Son sitting at the right hand of the Father.

Pastor Andy

Our precious Lord and Savior, I trust You will my life, and the lives of
those I love so much, for I know that You love them so much more than I ever
could.  I pray today for Pastor Berkey and wife June, that he finds the
words to comfort his brother Jerry, and wife Nancy.  I pray for Don and
Dwight, Ramona, Loren, Robbie, who fight in the battle with illness daily;
for Kathy and Terri, Becky, Montella, Carolyn, Charlie, Kim, Nada, who fight
sickness. I pray for those who struggle with relationship issues:  Angie,
Isabel, Terry and his father, Pam and her son, Kelly and her son, Shelly and
her mother, Richard and his father, Tim and his mother, Julissa and a
friend, Ellen's friend. Lord, there may be even more, and I lift them to You
today.  I pray for those who need You, and I don't even know the reason, but
You do Father, so in obedience, I lift them to You: Kristena, Abby, Vanessa,
Malachi, Corbin, Mike S., Ryan, Olivia, Jeremiah, Joanna, Tom, Evelyn, Joy,
Ruth, Ada, JV, BJ, Ida, Betty H., Briggs church, Ben, Jackie Ann, Tonia,

for these and I pray for myself and my wife, for strength, to face each day,
and to trust You fully with every step we take.  I praise You Holy Father,
for the grace You so abundantly shower over us, and I ask boldly for
healing, for peace, for comfort, and strength in the name of Jesus.
