The Journey Thoughts

October 27, 2016

Last night I had the privilege of witnessing a young lady being honored for
achieving the highest level in the American Heritage Girls.  This wonderful
organization takes to heart the raising up of children in the care and
admonition of the Lord, and as was said last night, it was clear that she
had the backing of many people, of whom her parents were at the top of the
list, as they should be.  It's refreshing to hear and to see young people
not being afraid to be different from the world.  But it's more than being
different from the world for that could be seen as rebellious, but instead
it is an adherence to a belief in our Heavenly Father, and our Lord Jesus
Christ.  And then asking and seeking His direction for our lives, and
actually living where that direction is taking us.  Scripture of old tells
us: "My people, hear my instruction; listen to what I say. I will declare
wise sayings; I will speak mysteries from the past - things we have heard
and known and that our fathers have passed down to us. We must not hide them
from their children, but must tell a future generation the praises of the
Lord, His might, and the wonderful words He has performed."  Psalm 78:1-4
Sure we have many bibles that will ensure the Word of God will continue to
be passed on to each generation, but what about the godly life, lived under
the surrendered heart?  Without the evidence of humility within the family,
and within the fellowship of believers, how would new believers interpret
the Word? Would they form their own beliefs, like so many in this world are
doing now?  Will they take the bible and have it fit into their lives as
they desire to live, and call themselves believers?

No, it takes examples of righteousness, and that righteousness has to come
from God, and be embedded in the hearts of parents and churches that become
living examples of what a true follower of Christ looks like. Paul knew what
righteousness was, or at least he thought he did, until he met Jesus. Then,
all that he had done, all that he had accomplished, he considered it as
loss.  He says, "Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and
consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not
having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith
in Christ - the righteousness from God based on faith." Philippians 3: 8-9
How great is it to see new believers come alive in Christ, and realize that
they are totally living differently than they were living before, and didn't
even realize it.  They wanted to follow Christ, and that was all that
mattered.  But they too, surrounded themselves with believers who lived by
faith.  Do you live that way?  Are you walking in faith today, not in the
footprints made by worldly people scattered around you, enticing you to what
may sound like a lot of fun, but only tends to draw you away from truth and
joy and hope.  But instead, we can learn from parents and others within the
fellowship what it takes to live for Christ.  There is no other life like
it, and I for one would never change that, for all the gold in the world.
For the riches of God in Christ, are far better than what the world has to
offer, and when we truly believe that, we will become a valuable asset for
Christ, to be examples for the young, and anyone else, who is tired of
walking in the world getting nowhere. So thank you Churches, those of you
who will walk in the ways of Christ, counting the cost, and knowing that the
cost is so worth it. Thank you, for there are many watching you to see if
your faith is real. They want something real, not pretend, so walk upright,
praising God every step of the way, surrendering to His will, and humbling
yourself before Him, for He is ready to lift you up.

Pastor Andy
