The Journey Thoughts

November 1, 2016

There is a word at the end of many Psalms that is intended for the audience
to Pause, to stop and listen, to think about that, which was written.  I
have given this name to our dog Selah, for I would hope that she would stop
and think about things before she does them. But alas, my dog does not know
what Selah means, or if she does, she doesn't care what it means. Many years
ago, I also had a horse that was young broke, and I named her Selah too.
She was like my dog, only wanting to do things without seeming to "think
about it."   I love the name, and as I was once again scolding my dog for
disobedience this morning, I had to remind myself that she is only still a
puppy, and does not THINK about things before acting.  But as I sit here
this morning reflecting on what a horrible dog trainer I am, I am given
pause to "THINK ABOUT IT."  So I went to the Psalms, to see what it is that
I am supposed to meditate on.  I was glued to Psalm 57 which says, " Be
gracious to me, God. Be gracious to me, for I take refuge in You. I will
seek refuge in the shadow of Your wings until danger passes. I call to God
Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me. He reaches down from
heaven and saves me, challenging the one who tramples me. (Selah) God sends
His faithful love and truth. I am surrounded by lions; I lie down with those
who devour men. Their teeth are spears and arrows; their tongues are sharp
swords. God, be exalted above the heavens; let Your glory be over the whole
earth. They prepared a net for my steps; I was despondent. They dug a pit
ahead of me, but they fell into it." (Selah) Psalm 57:1-6   Is it possible
that I read this Scripture and don't "think about it?" I know that God is
gracious and I know that His grace is so much more than I deserve.  I feel
His presence and know that it is a wonderful refuge, but do I seek His
refuge when danger comes to me?  Will I recognize that He is the comforter
through all things I encounter, and the preventer of things before I even
encounter them?  I think about the times that events should have come out
differently, yet I felt His comfort, and knew in retrospect that they turned
out exactly as they should have according to His will, and His purpose for
me. I don't know where the road for my tomorrow's will lead, as I don't know
where your roads will lead, but I feel a confidence that He will be the one
orchestrating that journey for you and me.  And if He is orchestrating it,
then nothing can or will happen outside of what is supposed to happen. So
today, let's find comfort in Him. Let's exalt Him above the heavens, for His
glory is over the whole earth. And if we are to "think about it," we will
realize that more than we can imagine, the pits dug to snare us, will often
be the very pits that those who dug them fall into, all because our God is
great, and His mercies will not fail us.  So take a moment today, reflect on
God's truth, and read His word to find what His will is for you today, then
take a moment and pause - think about it.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, help us to have hearts that will not stop at the mundane,
and will not forget to put thought to Your words, for Your words are truth.
But forgive us when we, like the child, or the pet puppy, will get into
trouble, for it is just our failure to keep those things in our hearts.
Give us Your heart today, that we will have thoughts of Your love, and the
love of Your Son, Jesus, so that we will once again, Worship You, Almighty
God. I pray today for: Mike and his sisters, Don, Dwight, Jim, Vanessa,
