The Journey Thoughts

November 3, 2016

Scripture tells us this: "Then the disciples came up and asked Him, 'Why do
you speak to them in parables?' He answered them, 'Because the secrets of
the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but it has not been
given to them. For whoever has, more will be given to him, and he will have
more than enough. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken
away from him. For this reason I speak to them in parables, because looking
they do not see, and hearing they do not listen or understand." Matthew
13:11-13  For many of you, it seems like the bible is easily understood, but
for some, the very verses you just read, are not understood at all.  So why
would Jesus want to keep things from the masses? To begin with, people hear
what they want to hear.  You only have to continue reading the gospels to
know that often times, the Pharisees and the lawyers were looking for ways
in which they could have him arrested and killed, and they did this by
watching His speech and His actions.  But they were so intent on finding
something wrong, they totally missed the point of the message, that of hope
and healing, and faith.  For years I had a bible, and still have it, that
was given me at a very young age.  At times I would open it and read, but I
want to tell you something, I understood nothing. Everything I read did not
make sense to me.  I just didn't get it, because what I know now, is that I
wasn't listening with a desire to know the truth, I just wanted to find
something that made sense from my thinking.  I wanted something that backed
up the way I felt, and spoke of things I wanted to hear. All the stories I
learned going to Sunday School as a child, were things I didn't understand.
I even memorized John 3:16, and never knew what it meant.  Listen to how
Paul explains it: "For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the
spirit of the man that is in him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts
of God, except the Spirit of God. Now we have not received the spirit of the
world but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has
been freely given to us by God. We also speak these things, not in words
taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining
spiritual things to spiritual people. But the unbeliever does not welcome
what comes from God's Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not
able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually." 1 Corinthians
2:11-14  So once I accepted Christ, I knew what it said, immediately.  When
I would read the understanding flew off the page at me, and I could not get
enough of it.  Don't feel bad if you don't understand Scripture, but think
about what you are trying to understand.  Is it, what the bible says, or
what God is telling you.  Have you opened your heart to hear the truth of
the Word, and be willing to accept it as truth.  If you are looking for
evidence, it is not found on the pages, but in your heart. " Faith comes
from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about
Christ." Romans 10:17  If you want to understand more of what you read in
Scripture, then pray with a heart of surrender to Christ to have Him open
your heart to hear.  Listen to what Your heart tells you is the truth, and
that will become the truth that liberates you from the bondage of the world.
The parables!  They are a story, but so much more than a story, for they
tell us the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, and show us the true intents
of our hearts.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word, for Your word illuminates the
hearts of all who believe.  Help us to have hearts that will put what we
have heard from Your word, now that we understand it, and present it to a
world not desiring to understand.  May they be open to see what life You
have given us, so that they too, will desire this life.  I pray for those
who, because of illness or injury or depression, cannot draw power from Your
word, for they are too overwhelmed. I pray for You to heal them, even now,
so that they will hear and understand, and will draw closer to Your Son. I
pray for: New baby- Ellie Jane and momma Anna, Mike, Sue, Marie, Sharon,
