The Journey Thoughts

November 15, 2016

Do some people just rub you the wrong way? You know the type whose arrogance
and loudness just drive you to want to leave the building?  Yet, we are
called to be forgiving people when we are wronged by another. We are not to
use the same attitude to others as they use on us, but it seems like with
these type of people, the worst just comes out of us. So if you happen to be
a person who does not respond well to those who purposefully drive you
crazy, here is a lesson from the fig tree.  One day Jesus was with his
disciples and He saw a fig tree in the distance with its green leaves.  When
he approached it, there was no figs on it.  So He did an interesting thing
here, He cursed the tree.  A short time later, as He and His disciples were
in that area again, they noticed that the fig tree was dead from the ground
up. They remembered what Jesus had done and were in wonder that it now was
dead. Interesting that Jesus used this as a lesson of faith.  Here is what
He told them: "Jesus replied to them, 'Have faith in God. I assure you: If
anyone says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea, and
does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it
will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask
for - believe that you have received then, and you will have them. And
whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive
him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your wrongdoing.
But if you don't forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your
wrongdoing.'" Mark 11:22-26  I wonder if at times we don't think our prayers
are answered because we have not learned to forgive. It seems like the lack
of forgiveness hinders us from true faith that knows God will act on.  Is it
that God will not grant requests?  We know that He won't with wrong motives,
but with a true heart. When we believe something will happen when we pray,
and it does happen, do we give glory to God, or feel a little puffed up
because we prayed, as if the person became well because of our prayers.
(which may be so)  Yet what is happening in our hearts?  Is not the same
pride and arrogance happening that we dislike when we see in others? Are we
really not in an attitude of forgiveness because inside we know that our
behavior is the same as theirs?  Is it just that we justify our sins, while
putting down the sins of others without forgiveness in our hearts.  After
all, if I forgive them, that would mean I have something to ask for
forgiveness in my heart also.   Faith that moves mountains, is a faith that
is transparent, wholly given over to the will of the Father, knowing that
what we might be asking for, we have already received, but we just can't see
it, because we wanted it in another way.  I do believe that God answers all
prayers of the faithful; He just answers them in His timing, and His way,
which more often than not, is not our way. Our expectation is totally
different from His will, and if we can see it through the eyes of faith, we
will see the results of God directed action.  So let's start with
forgiveness!  Is there someone you have to ask forgiveness from?  Then ask
it.  Is there someone you have to forgive? Forgive them, even if they don't
ask for forgiveness, for forgiving others is the start of a procedure that
rids us from harboring all those things that clutter our heart, that keeps
us from seeing the activity of the Lord within us.  It's time to have faith!
It's time to turn over everything that we want, to the Lord, for Him to
deliver what His will is, and trust that He will do it, for He loves us, and
wants us to see His glory, and not the glory we settle on ourselves.  I want
to be open to the Lord in all things, don't you?  Let's make today the start
of a new way of thinking - turning ALL over to Him, and All that we ask,
will be what He desires to give.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father,  Lord, I pray for these daily, and want healing and
restoration, and salvation for those who are listed.  I want harmony to
exist in families, and I know that You do too, yet why is there still pain
and suffering?  Why is there still the scars of emotional hurts caused by
loved ones, or why hasn't that loved one, accepted You yet, because we
prayed for it to happen?  Lord, I know Your plan is unfolding even now, and
I pray once again for these who need Your touch.  Help them to see Your
activity within them. Help them to see You delivering their healing in Your
way.  And if Lord, there is unforgiveness in my heart, or any of our hearts,
please point that out to us, for we want to be transparent before You, even
though You see to our heart.  So once again, I lift up to you: Eric, Gene,
