The Journey Thoughts

December 7, 2016

Many believers think that once Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, and we
have chosen to follow Him, we no longer have to worry about "works" or the
"law," but there is something that we have to consider.  Jesus came to
fulfill the law, not to abolish it.  In fulfilling it, He became the
redeemer for the sin that exists within us.  He is the fulfillment of the
law.  The law is good, and is still good, and the only difference is that
now, we realize that it is through Christ that Salvation comes, not through
being able to keep the law.  When it comes to keeping the law, we are
miserable failures, and the law will still be the measuring stick that God
will judge those who reject Christ, because sin still has to be paid for by
blood.  Those rejecting Jesus as Savior of the World, still will stand
before our Lord, and then give account to how they lived righteously by the
law, and they too, will fail.   Jesus told His disciples: "Don't assume that
I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to
fulfill. For I assure you: Until heaven and earth pass away, not the
smallest letter or one stroke of a letter will pass from the law until all
things are accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these
commands and teaches people to do so will be called least in the kingdom of
heaven. But whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called
great in the kingdom." Matthew 5:17-19  The commandment still allows us to
recognize right from wrong, but now it is written on our hearts.  The Holy
Spirit knows we cannot keep the law, but He still prompts us to try to live
righteous lives for the sake of Christ, not for the sake of being good
enough to get into heaven.  That's already been known that within ourselves
we cannot be good enough, but through the love that we have for Christ, when
we do sin, it has already been covered by Christ. Paul would write to the
Roman church: "What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that
grace may multiply? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in
it? Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus
were baptized into His death? Romans 6: 1-3  So we are given the choice, to
live by grace through faith in Jesus, and follow Him, or just say that we
believe in Jesus but still live in the world, involved in sinful activities,
thinking that we can go ahead and do this because Jesus already paid the
penalty for our behavior.   Yes, Jesus came to fulfill the law, to make it
so that we, who cannot live without this sin constantly messing with us,
still have an opportunity to be in heaven with our Lord, because He
fulfilled the redemption of our souls.  So this is the heart of the matter!
Are you listening to the Spirit as He guides you on your walk through this
life, this journey to heaven?  Our hearts should desire to walk with Him,
trust in Him, listen to Him and His word and stay humble, knowing that we
are always going to be prone to do something sinful.  Our Work should be a
work of the heart for the sake of our love for Jesus.  He will keep no
record of wrongs when we believe in Him, and He will remember no sins, that
we have confessed to Him, and repented of, before Him.  It's all a matter of
the heart!  But one thing we must remember, is that we do not have license
to carry on sinful behavior just because we know that we are saved.  That
would be foolish, for to know Christ and His resurrection, is to believe
that He is our Lord, and if He is our Lord, then we should, out of love, be
honoring Him with our lives, lived in honor and thanksgiving to the One who
paid the greatest price of all, to give us life everlasting.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father,  Thank You for Jesus.  Lord, I know that within myself
there is nothing good, for as Paul says, the things I want to do, I do not
do, and that things I don't want to do, I do.  I understand the wretchedness
of the pull of sin, Yet I know that my Lord Jesus has paid for this, and I
repent once again before You Lord, that I need Your cleaning. I have need of
Your Spirit to refresh my soul, and I pray for myself, and for those who
read this that still struggle with listening intently as Your Spirit speaks.
May You clean us all!  I pray for those who because of their situation,
struggle daily, and I ask for Your intervention in their lives.  So, I lift
to You: Kathryn, the Dement family, the churches in Thackerville, and
Gainesville, who are looking for a new Pastor; for Mary Ruiz, Betty H.,
