The Journey Thoughts

December 9, 2016

Can you imagine never being thirsty.  I have this awful habit of not
stopping to drink enough water when I am working.  I usually pay for it
later with a headache.  I am trying however, to drink more water, for I know
the necessity of it in my system.  I was reading this morning about Jesus
stopping by the well in Samaria, where He met a woman, that He asked to give
Him a drink. She was surprised because Jews did not associate with
Samaritans, so when He told her that if she knew the gift of God, which was
Himself, she would be asking for Him to give her a drink.  I can imagine the
dialogue, when this woman stopped at the well, and here was a man who asked
for a drink, then started telling her that if she only knew who He was, she
was be asking him for a drink.  So it is not surprising that she would then
tell Him, how could He give her a drink when He had no bucket and the well
was deep.  Here we can pick up the story: "Jesus said, 'Everyone who drinks
from this water will get thirsty again. But whoever drinks from the water
that I will give him will never get thirsty again - ever! In fact, the water
I will give him will become a well of water springing up within him for
eternal life.'" John 4:13-14  We do all get thirsty, especially when we have
been working, and we have to keep ourselves hydrated for the benefit of our
bodies.  We cannot survive without water.  What a wonderful parallel that
Jesus would use of "Living Water." Water that is so necessary for the
completeness of the soul, and if we were to think about it, demanded of by
the very cells of our soul.  But like me when I start to work, I don't want
to take the time to refresh my body, many will not take the time to listen
to the message of hope given through our Lord and Savior.  We all feel the
emptiness that exists within us, and many try to fill the emptiness with
food, drink, drugs, sex, power, money and whatever the world is selling at
the time, but like the physical water, it only refreshes for a short time.
The need for more constantly cries out from within us.  If only we could and
would believe that this void, this thirst for completeness is filled in the
person of Jesus, the One who still lives on at the right hand of the Father.
This One who died to take away the sins of the world, is the completeness of
our souls.  While we continue to try to fill our void with things of the
world, those who have tasted and know that Jesus is the Only One capable of
filling that emptiness within us, have found completeness, and do indeed
never thirst again.  I like that.  Jesus has given me a drink of the
spiritual water, that living water of His Spirit, and I have been filled.
At times when my mind tries to play tricks on me and tries to convince me
that I need something else in my life, I once again turn to the One who
resides there and He reminds again, that He is with me always. He has never
left, and He never will.  So are you thirsty today?  Do you feel the void
within you that you are not sure how to fill it.  Maybe you have tried many
things to satisfy that emptiness, and nothing worked.  Come to the well my
friend, and you will meet Jesus, who not only will save you from the lack of
truth that causes confusion and hopelessness, but He will fill the void that
has been there your whole life.  He is the only One who can.  Why not give
Him a try, by coming to Him, and asking Him for a drink of His living water,
and you will be refreshed.  You will be "born again," not of flesh, but of
Spirit, and you will live and never thirst again.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, Thank You for this living water. Thank You for providing
the completeness of the void that is within us.  I pray for those who
thought they knew Jesus, but still feel the void within them.  Help them
Father, to take from the cup You have offered, so that they can truly live.
I pray for those who have been so distracted by the trials of life, and the
pressures of life, that they can't feel Your presence. Please make Yourself
known to them with Your comfort and strength. I pray then for: Kathryn, the
Dement family, the local churches that need a shepherd, that You would guide
the right person to them. I pray for: Mary Ruiz, Betty H., Veronica,
