I must admit, I have gotten spoiled by our car which has a GPS built into
it. It maps out every address you can put into it, yet even on occasion, I
get frustrated because it's not one hundred percent accurate. It's nice
however, to have some help when trying to get somewhere, and even our phones
now have this feature, so it is so much easier. I wonder what we did before
this technology became so every day for us? Before the built in, or before
the Iphone to bring us GPS, there were these special machines that showed
you the way, but they also were not too reliable, at least mine wasn't. Now
it sits like a piece of outdated junk on my garage workbench. We, as
believers know where we are going on this journey, but sometimes, we seem to
be listening to another GPS, instead of the One instilled in our hearts, on
how to get to the end of our journey. Isaiah would prophesy: " For you
people will live on Zion in Jerusalem and will never cry again. He will show
favor to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears. He will answer you.
The Lord will give you meager bread and water during oppression, but your
Teacher will not hide Himself any longer. Your eyes will see your Teacher,
and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this
command behind you: This is the way. Walk in it." Isaiah 30:19-21 For this
journey I keep talking about, we still need guidance to get to the finish
line. We need help because there are so many distractions along the way.
In reminds me of once when I visited New Orleans, walking down the street,
there were so many people calling out to me from the bars, wanting me to
come in. They didn't care about my direction, they wanted to get all I had,
for themselves. The adversary was in full force, and the voice within me at
times became fainter and fainter. To need to hear the Teacher, to want to
hear requires listening to His voice. "When he has brought all his own
outside, he goes ahead of them. The sheep follow him because they recognize
his voice. They will never follow a stranger; instead they will run away
from him, because they don't recognize the voice of strangers." John 10:4-5
Jesus goes on to say, "I am the good shepherd. the good shepherd lays down
his life for the sheep." v11 If you are like me, and I suspect you are, you
hear lots of voices in your head reminding you to walk this way or that way,
but the question will always be, "which do you listen to?" We must know the
voice of the One who saved us. We know Him, and the world does not, but
instead the world tries to get us to listen to the voice of our own making.
It tries to get us to walk how we want to, and not be a slave to anyone, yet
walking in a way that always seems to lead us to dead ends, is also slavery.
It is a control that leads us to places we don't really want to go, whereas
the Good Shepherd, will be a familiar voice in our ears, because we know
Him. But friends, we still must be willing to listen to Him, even when the
direction seems to be in the opposite of where we think we should be going.
Follow the true GPS, follow Jesus, the One who knows the way, for He is the
Way. Follow Him for His way is perfect, and leads to everlasting life.
Follow Him, for his yoke is easy, and He wants to share that with us. Follow
Him for He is truth! Follow and He will lead us home.
Heavenly Father, I pray for all who walk this path today. For all who want
and try to listen to You but the distractions of life seem to keep them off
track. I pray You will get them back on track, and to give them comfort and
provide for them every step of the way. I lift up today: Kaden, Carol,
