The Journey Thoughts

December 20, 2016

Isaiah 40:12-14 says: "Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand
or marked off the heavens with the span of his hands? Who has gathered the
dust of the earth in a measure or weighed the mountains in a balance and the
hills in the scales? Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord or who gave Him
His counsel? Who did He consult with? Who gave Him understanding and taught
Him the paths of justice? Who taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of
understanding?" These words leave the reader to meditate on who could
possibly be infinite enough to teach God?  Where did God get His knowledge
and who taught Him?  Who could possibly understand that unless they
understand who God is? Who could know the thoughts of Christ without the
Spirit teaching Him, for even reading without the Spirit to interpret or
give wisdom, is just reading, allowing the reader to use his own imagination
(wisdom) as to the answer to the questions.  Paul would understand the
writings of the Prophet, and he tells the church at Corinth: "We also speak
these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by
the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people. But the
unbeliever does not welcome what comes from God's Spirit, because it is
foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated
spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can evaluate everything, yet he
himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. For who has known the Lord's mind,
that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ." 1 Corinthians
2:13-16  Can I understand the love of God? Before I was saved, I thought I
knew what love was, yet after being given the Holy Spirit to live in me, I
realized that I didn't have a clue to what love was and is?  You see,
without the Spirit to teach us, everything is just bounced off our own
understanding, and the understanding of the unbeliever cannot fathom this
kind of definition.  So to, is the believer who fails to understand the
Spirit that lives within him. Paul writes this to the church, but
immediately afterward he tells them that he could not speak to them as
spiritual people, "but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ."  You
see, they were believers, but still lived under the understanding of the
flesh. They were like that, and many "believers" are like that today.  To
understand things spiritually, we have to think spiritually, and listen to
the Holy Spirit, not our fleshly spirit.  But how do we know when we are
trying to discern something that could possibly be  coming from the Holy
Spirit, or the spirit of man, the flesh?  The Corinthians believed they were
living by the spirit, yet their actions were of the flesh, and Paul called
them out on it. I think we need to be reminded every once in a while to stop
and meditate on what we are reading, and if we are reading the Word, what is
God telling us through the Spirit?  If it is anything else, does it glorify
God, or glorify man.  Does it bring peace to the heart through spiritual
understanding or does it bring unrest?  I cannot tell you what your mind is
thinking, any more than you can tell me what my mind is thinking, but this
is for sure, when we listen to the Spirit, He will take us on the same path.
But we have the mind of Christ!  Yes we do, for we have the Holy Spirit, who
is the mind of Christ, who is the very heart of God, but we must be willing
to die to self, die to pride, die to the things of the world, die to
arrogance, die to defiance, die to envy, die to strife, and live by the
Spirit, live by the Word of the Lord, live by the One who shows us how to
love, and how to be united as one in Spirit, for we are in Him.

Pastor Andy

Heavenly Father, May Your Word burn within our hearts as You teach us
through Your Spirit.  I pray for wisdom, for discernment, because it seems
like the adversary is trying very hard to divide Your people.  Yet I pray
for the strength to endure testing, to endure the pressure of being "pressed
down, but not crushed, perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted but not
abandoned, struck down but not destroyed."  Lord, I for one, surrender all
my pride, my flesh, my thoughts of self, my works, to You, and ask that You
would let me be a slave to You.  I want nothing more, than to sit at Your
feet and hear Your truths.  I pray that those who call themselves Yours,
will also surrender to You.  I pray for those who are hampered by sickness
or persecution, or pain or suffering, will surrender it all to You today,
and that You will give them peace.  I pray for the unsaved that You will be
merciful, and grant them salvation.  I pray then for these:  Carol, Michele,
Pam, William, Carrie, Ada, Rheba, Mary, Veronica, Douglas, Fritz, Dan,
Dillon, Tara, Kristena, Kristen, Carolyn, Gene, Terry, Angie, Isabel, Don,
Dwight, Sammie, Lynn, Mike S., Barbara, Candace, Meredith, Abe, Ramona, Ben,
BJ, Ida, JV, Eva, Kelly and her son, Corbin, Robert, Pat, Ryan, Fred, Dotty,
Scott, April, Tracy, Abraham, Elijah, Japheth, Mike, Megan, Jeff, Laura,
Matt, Liz, Matt, Bethany, Tim, Alex, Ken, Lynette, Patrick, Kathy, Jennifer,
Montella, Nancy, June, Pastor Berkey, Harriet, Shelbi, Fisher, Marlaina,
Cynthia, Loren, Mike, Pam, Clara, Jerry, Gary, Diane, Nada. I pray Father,
for Your Church, Your people, that we could move on to living daily under
the clear direction of Your Spirit, that we might listen more, understand
better, and change from our apathy to passion of serving You.  I ask this in
Jesus name.
