The Journey

A great lesson for all of us is the lesson of contentment with what we have, Paul has been given a gift of care from the Philippians, and although he welcomed the gift he wanted them to know that it was not out of need because God had supplied all his needs. Here's the Scripture: "I don't say this out  of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content - whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me."  Philippians 4:11-13  It's a secret that not every person is able to master, but if we struggle with mastering contentment, it's because our focus in on our needs instead of Christ. He is the true supplier of contentment, and it's not that when we trust in Him we have everything we want, but rather, notice what Paul says.  He has seen and experienced the best and the worst.  He was hungry and well-fed, yet neither made him content. What made him content was the strength that He drew through Christ.  Are you content? And if so, is it just because all of your wants and needs are met at the moment? What would happen if it were all taken away from you?  Would you still be content?  What would happen if that test came back positive and the future of your health and the stability of your family was now drastically altered? Would you be able to find contentment?  If we keep looking for it as a sign for convenience and the accumulation of wants, I'm not sure we will ever be content.  But if all is going very well for you now, learn the secret anyway, and pray for your neighbor, for his lot may not be going well, and tomorrow it could be you.  Let's find our contentment in Christ and Christ alone, then whether well-fed or hungry; whether rich or poor; whether single or married; whether barren or fruitful, you will find peace, for He is our contentment.

Lord, I pray for: Sue and Brad; for Carolyn, Cynthia, Barbara, Loren, Jackie Ann, those who have suffered loss from circumstances of weather; for Eric, Brent's grandfather died last night, so please keep that family in prayer.  Terri, Steven, Lexi, Candy. Mike S.  Mike and Pam. Gus, Lisa, our first responders and especially the one that was shot in Dallas, May You heal him Lord. I pray for those who have learned the secret, that they will teach those who struggle, and point them to You, Heal our country, I pray in Jesus name.
