I swear living a Christian life is not too different than the patrols I went on in Vietnam. As part of a small unit, we had to constantly be on alert for the enemy. We would know before going in to an area, if there was any intelligence concerning enemy activity in that area. Let's face it, if there was no enemy activity in the area, why go? This morning I would like you to consider an intelligence report before you go out on your mission today in the world. "Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude. Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human traditions, based on elemental forces of the world, and not based on Christ." Colossians 2:6-8 So our leader, the Lord, knows we are ready for the mission of the day. We are rooted and built up in Him, and our faith is strong, but we are reminded that the enemy will used his weapons of choice to find us and make contact, and to hurt us or make us ineffective. I was a Corpsman, a medic, yet one of the team. In WWII, we used to wear red crosses on our helmets to remind everyone that we were there to take care of the wounded. We could no longer wear red crosses on our helmets ( we didn't wear them anyway), because the enemy would focus on hurting the medic, the radioman, and the squad leader, so to disrupt the squad. Our enemy against the Spirit, will use whatever works: philosophy, empty deceit on human traditions, based on things of the world. But you, soldier of the Lord's Army, will walk today under the direction of the Spirit, and you will listen, watch, and be prepared for the forces against you this day. You are up to the task. You are Christian!
Lord, please protect Your soldiers, both spiritual and physical. Help us to be prepared and courageous as we face the day. Help us to be there to help a brother, who may have gotten wounded by the enemy or just weary from the battle. I pray specifically for those who You direct to be on our hearts today, and I pray for those already engaged in the battle. Please give them comfort, for I ask it in Jesus name.
