Over the years I have developed this ability to wake up the same time every morning. It's like I have an automatic alarm clock in my head, and it is set to always go off at the same time. But I have some friends who always have difficulty getting up in the morning, and without an alarm to tell them, they will always oversleep. But what causes this? Well, I don't know, but I want to draw an analogy to our spiritual lives. Scripture says: "So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." Colossians 3:1-4 When we accept Christ, we have been given the Holy Spirit, and in John 14 we are told that the Counselor, the Holy Spirit - "will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you." He is the reminder, and the alarm, if I might say that, to awaken us to spiritual matters, when we put our focus too much on the world. But like anything else, we have to train our minds to want to listen to His teaching, His admonition, His warnings of where our minds tend to wander off to. So we are to SET OUR MINDS! We are to keep our thoughts on spiritual matters, not the things that are so temporary. But how do you do that? I do know this. Things that excite us, that we can hardly wait for, occupy our minds, and even though it might be hard to sleep at night, we SET our minds so that we will wake early, because of the excitement that awaits us. When was the last time you got excited about waking to see what the Lord has in store for you on that day. Maybe it's time we SET our minds before we go to bed, and wait in expectation for what the Lord will bring our way in the morning, as we seek Him.
Lord, change our hearts! Be the alarm that wakes us to the joy of the morning. Be the hope that brings us a smile each day, because of our rest in You. Lord, Once again I lift to You: Sue, Brad, Carolyn, Cynthia, Barbara, Loren, Jackie Ann, Eric, Terri, Steven, Lexi, Candy, Mike S., Mike and Pam, Gus, Lisa, Speros, Rheba, Ada, Harriet, Marlaina, I pray Lord, that You will help us to change our focus, to make it on You, and not on the things of the world, for I ask it in Jesus name.
