The Journey

Do you associate with those of the world you consider "unsaved?" Do you let your children associate with unbelievers?   Here is an interesting Scripture: "I wrote you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world. But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside? But God judges outsiders. Put away the evil person from among yourselves."  1 Corinthians 5:9-13  We so often bury the sins of our brothers, and judge the world. After all, there is a lot to judge.  But reading Scripture this morning, I am reminded that we are to be lights in a darkened world, not a judge.  But if there is evil within the body, that we are to judge. We are to be strong enough to put that person out of the church, or at least don't associate with them. That's not showing favoritism of the world over a brother, but is showing the world that our expectation is on the saved, not the lost.  This is a good reminder for all of us to clean our houses and our hearts. Be honest with those around you; be willing to invoke church discipline, by going to that one, alone, and try to restore such a one to the body, and if he will not listen, take another brother so that the witness of two can be confronting him with his sin. If that doesn't work, go to the church.  Very few churches effect church discipline, and instead judge the world, and hide the sin of the believer.  Let's make sure that our own family that professes Christ, is living, and repenting like a true believer in Christ. Let's stay humble and obedient to the Lord our God, through the Spirit.

Lord, speak to our hearts. Let us see the truth that is in You, and compare it to what is in our hearts. Then, Lord, Please clean our hearts, and make us new in You, each day if necessary, and each hour if required.  I pray for those in the church, that we will humble ourselves before you, and look to You only for the example of what a true light to the world looks like. I pray this in Jesus name.
