As we have another Mother's day coming up this Sunday, I reflect back on two of the most influential women in my life: My mother, who was taken from me at age five, and the mother of my children, who was taken from me at 66. Even though I only had my mother for 5 years, even today, she remains a constant in my thoughts, and every good memory has stayed with me. But even though I had to say goodbye to those I love, God has put others in my path, women who have taken the place of those I hold so dear. When Jesus was ready to give up his last breath of human life, and enter eternity, he made a provision for his mother. "When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple He loved standing there, He said to His mother, 'Woman, here is your son.' Then He said to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his home." John 19: 26-27 Jesus made sure that when He left, someone would take care of His mother. That's how important she was to Him. We are that important to Him. When I look back on those who have taken my mother's place, and the one He has given me to stand beside me the rest of this journey, it doesn't make me forget the value or the love I felt from either of these, and that love is secure. But it does make me realize the love the Lord has for me, to help me in my need of another in my life, from the time it was my mother, to the time it was my wife. You see, it's about the Lord taking care of us in our need. He knows that need better than anyone, and He loves us so much and He cares about all those we love, especially those we hold so dear. So for all of you who have said goodbye to your mothers, wives, daughters, husbands, and sons and brothers, and they have gone to be with our Lord, rejoice that He wanted them so much. Then look around you, and see who are your mothers, sisters, and brothers, and yes, even another to walk beside you, and praise God that He has taken care of every detail in your life. Celebrate the fact that You were blessed with such a one, and for such a time, and when they leave to wait in eternity for us, we must go on, for God wants us to rejoice that they are with Him, and not grieve for self for too long, but rejoice that God still is in charge and He has a plan, and that plan includes us to continue loving, serving, and rejoicing, for our life is about Him, and He will meet our need.
Lord, thank You for the women You have put in our lives, from our mothers, to our wives, to those you continue to bless us with, as we travel this earth, making our journey homeward. I honor You and thank You for blessing me more than I deserve, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
