Right next to my property sits this barn with a cattle chute next to it. I was watching as he pulled his truck and trailer up and backed it into the chute area. He was going to collect some of his cows. The cows came easily into the corral, for they thought they were going to get fed, but then he started herding them into the chute for loading onto the trailer. They didn't want to have anything to do with that. I thought about helping him, but he seemed to have everything under control, at least until the last part when he tried to get the cows to go through that narrow gate, to be loaded in the trailer. It made me think of Scripture: "Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that lead to life, and few find it." Matthew 7:13-14 I wonder if people are like that, not wanting to go through the narrow gate, even though for us it leads to life. I pictured the Lord herding us, like sheep, trying to get us through the narrow gate, but the wider gate seems so much better. We don't have to push and shove to get through, but what many don't realize is that which seems so much easier, has an end that is destruction of life. Take a moment and think about the road you are traveling on. Is it a road that is like a superhighway, or is it a little country one lane road. It needs only be one lane, for there is no traffic coming back, only those few going. I don't know about you, but I like the country, and I choose the country road. I choose the narrow gate that isn't traveled through much compared to the highway with its bigger and wide gate. Look at the road you are traveling on today. Your life depends on it.
Heavenly Father, Lord, guide us to the narrow chute, that leads to the narrow road, that leads to life. Help our journey be filled with courage, strength, and joy. I pray for those already on a road, and I ask You for their healing, their comfort, for peace, love and joy, even though the road seems so small. I pray then for: Kristen, Sam, Kim, Clyde, James, Starla, Scott, William and his friend, Rose, Dave, Linda, Mike, Abby, Marlaina, Cynthia, Barbara, Loren, Jackie Ann, Carolyn ( Lord she needs You desperately.) I pray for: Speros, Mike S., Bill, Sarah, Dan, Marie, Rachel, for those who put others before self, especially in countries where there is danger. I pray for those who put their lives on the line right here in America. Lord, Please heal our land, as You lead us on the narrow road on our journey homeward. I pray in Jesus name.
