Last night the wind was so strong, I wondered what would be the destruction come morning. I could not sleep because I had to stay awake and be prepared. Prepared for what I don't know, but I needed to stay awake anyway. I was thinking about the time that Jesus was asleep in the back of a boat and a strong wind came up. It didn't even awaken Him, but his disciples sure stayed awake. They thought they were going to die: "As He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves. But He was sleeping. So the disciples came and woke Him up, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to die!" But He said to them, 'Why are you fearful, you of little faith?' Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm." Matthew 8:23-26 Even as believers, it's amazing the things that still bring fear into our being. I was fearful last night as I stayed awake wondering if we were going to have strong enough straight-line winds, or a tornado cropping up, and causing harm. But the Holy Spirit reminded me of these verses, and I prayed, not for rescue, but for His peace in the midst of the storm. For I knew once again, that nothing could happen to us, unless it is approved by the Lord Himself. Storm, or no storm; destruction or no destruction, I realize that what's important is that we all have our Lord in the back of the boat, and He is not asleep, as we might assume, but waiting for us to trust in His presence.
Lord, I trust in You, for You are our shelter. I know we do not have to fear the unknown if we have the faith, so please make our faith bigger than our fears. I pray for Your will to be accomplished today, as we not only pray for those who are on the list, needing Your comfort, but we pray for each other, that our faith would grow stronger, and our fears dissolved in the knowledge of Your presence. No matter where we walk on this earth, we know that You will walk with us, and for that we are grateful, and comforted. So may we seek Your presence in the name of Jesus.
