The Journey

May 23, 2017

We all like to wear things that represent us or our way of thinking.  I have always liked Harley T-shirts, and now that I don't ride to  much anymore, they are becoming obsolete to me. Military service members wear ribbons to show which things they have done and earned either in combat or campaign. There is one ribbon that sits on my chest in old military pictures that I am proud of because it is one of the few that I have had to work very hard to earn. I didn't set off trying to earn it, and it wasn't even given at the time, only later. That is the Combat Action Ribbon.  When some military see this, many don't fully understand why this Navy man has one, for it is only awarded to those who served on land in wars. I earned it being a Corpsman with the Marines in 1967-1968. But all these things have become secondary to the new "Badge" that I now wear. It is the badge that shows everyone I meet that I am a believer in Christ Jesus.  Jesus tells us: "I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35. This is one badge that I hope to honor always, even though I know that I don't live up to it from time to time. It's not something I can work for, or strive to earn, but is only truly revealed when we allow the Holy Spirit fully control over our lives.  I believe that within ourselves we are not capable of that kind of love, but can only love like Him, when we are surrendered to His leading.  And then they will know that we are His disciples. Check out what you have on before you leave the house today. Do you have the badge of Christ written on your heart, because others will see if it is there, or if it is not there.

Heavenly Father, I pray for You to control my life today. I pray that I will not disappoint You, I pray that others will see the love that You have planted on my heart, and that I try to wear now, as the badge of honor of being called Christian. May those who call on You also wear this badge today, and allow You to fill their lives with Your Spirit, that others will see something different, and will know that we belong to You. I pray this in Jesus name.
