As believers, we want to be in God's will, and we want to think about the things of the Lord 24/7. Yet often is the case in which what we want to do, we do not do. We will find ourselves thinking things we shouldn't be thinking. We will be involved in things we shouldn't be involved in. We speak things we ought not be speaking. You get the point. One place in Scripture that I will use today uses "asleep" or "awake" to reveal whether we are thinking of the things of the Lord, or asleep, not thinking of the things of the Lord. Listen to Scripture: "For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be serious. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a helmet of the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 Even though we are encouraged to always stand strong, we are to put on the armor of faith and love, and wear the helmet of the hope of salvation, and in doing so we know that when we walk in the light, as He is in the light we will have fellowship with Him, but when we sometimes sleep, or are not doing things that would be considered pleasing tot he Lord, we are still protected and we still belong to Him, because of our faith and His promise. Now this is not a license to live in the darkness or to stay "asleep" all the time, but when we wander off course He is still with us, and our home is still with Him.
Heavenly Father, I thank You that You care for us so much that even in our weaknesses You still watch over us, and You still love us. I pray for the strength to stay "awake", to walk in Your light all through the day, and so I pray for You to grab hold of us, even when we are not strong enough to hold on, and to walk with us as we find our way back to the day, with Your guidance. I pray this in Jesus name.
