If your children or grandchildren were asked to describe love, what do you think they would say? HiHo, a children's film producer, recently released a video where kids were asked to describe what love looks and feels like to a professional illustrator, who then would attempt to draw the concepts on paper. Some of the kids' responses were hesitant and some bashful, and some proved to be profound in ways that only children could provide. To some children, love looks like: hugs, bubbles, and "a burger and fries." To others, love was described as: "scary … aren't you scared of love?" or a "lollipop with a scorpion inside," or like "Sprite … because it makes me tingle." I wonder how our young would describe love? I actually wonder how some adults would describe it. Scripture tells us: "Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God remains in us and His love is perfected in us." 1 John 4:10-12 I think this would look pretty good if this kind of love was expressed by a child. But it could only be described if they saw this kind of love in action. Are we examples that others would describe us in a way that reveals God's love? If not, perhaps we are not giving a good enough representation of what love looks like, so that others will be able to explain it clearly when they meet or see us. We have an opportunity today, to be a representation of God's love, or the world's love. Which will they see in us? Why not ask your child or grandchild and see what their answer is. It might surprise you.
Lord, teach us to know what Your love looks like, and not only what it looks like, but the strength to live Your love in our lives. I pray for those who need Your touch of love today, that they would understand it, trust it, and allow it to permeate every part of their lives. We know that You are Love, and that You in us, would reveal a great picture of what love looks like, so I ask for this to all who read this today in Jesus name.
