When Jesus was in the synagogue, as recorded in Luke 4, He read from Isaiah about Himself: "The Spirit of the Lord God is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of our God's vengeance; to comfort all who mourn, to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees planted by the Lord to glorify Him." Isaiah 61:1-3 As I read and meditate on these verses this morning, I realize that Jesus not only has come for this, but is still doing it today. Who of us has not been brokenhearted, and healed by our Lord? Who of us have not felt at some point in our lives, captive by circumstances, or poor choices? Who of us have not felt His anointing and blessed to be able to wear a crown of beauty and not cover ourselves with ashes like is described so often of the Lord's people? Before you leave for the day ahead, let's give Him praise because this Jesus, who announced His ministry, is still involved with those who are oppressed and suffering. He is still involved in those of us who struggle with decisions, and wants us to know that He still cares and is involved in our lives. Are you facing the giants today? Are you in the valley of indecision or despair? You don't have to stay there, for our Lord has already provided you a way out. He has given you His Spirit to guide you over the slippery slopes of this life. Let Him show you! You will find Him faithful, even when we are faithless; you will find Him there even when your own thoughts are miles away. We don't have to wait for the Lord to return to us, all we have to do is turn around and return to Him, and we will know what true rest is like.
Lord, may we rest in You this day! May we return to the sanctuary where we meet with You. I pray for those who are left today with hurts, both physical and emotional. I pray that You will heal the brokenhearted once more. Lord, I want to lift to You today: Brittany, Christian, Bobbi in her loss, Bill, Sidney,Theresa, Rheba, Peggy, Harriet, Ada, Carolyn, Cynthia, Barbara, Loren, Speros, Jackie Ann, Gus, Lisa, Mike S., Pam and Mike, I pray for Lisa and decisions that she has to make. I pray for Caitlyn, who needs you to comfort her with her health concerns. I pray for the churches, who steadfastly proclaim the message of truth, and for those who desire to become more like You. Help us to see the beauty of the day, not because of the splendor outside, but the splendor inside our hearts and we feel Your presence within us. I pray this in Jesus name.
