As I sit reading this morning, my thoughts go to the beauty of the Vitex plant outside my window. It's beautiful flowers bring many hummingbirds to visit early in the morning, and for some reason this brings joy to my heart. It's interesting the things that bring a smile to our lips, and joy to our hearts: A cool, still morning, or a light breeze in the heat of the day; a soft rain to cool down the heat, and the smile of a friend. All these things float through my thoughts, as I think of how blessed I am to know the Lord has prepared everything just for our benefit. The Preacher says this: "Here is what I have seen to be good: it is appropriate to eat, drink, and experience good in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of his life God has given him, because that is his reward. God has also given riches and wealth to every man, and He has allowed him to enjoy them, take his reward, and rejoice in his labor. This is a gift of God, for he does not often consider the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with the joy of his heart." Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 The more I stop to enjoy the very nature around me, the more I realize I have spent too much of my life looking past the beauty that God has given us for enjoyment. I have been too focused on work, and the need to earn. But, I have been given rest so that at this time of my life, I can think. I can sit quiet and learn the lessons He has been instilling in my heart all these years. Did I do it right? Did I forget to stop and smell the flowers once in awhile? Did I forget to pay attention to all that God has displayed in beauty for our enjoyment? Perhaps! Yet, there is always time, as we have breath, to take a moment and look around us. What do we see? It has been said that whatever we set our minds to, we can accomplish. If it is wealth, we will accomplish it, if it is war, we will accomplish it. If it is greed, we will accomplish it. If it is love - we will accomplish it. Maybe we need to change our thoughts to be more like God's thoughts, and we might accomplish some beautiful things.
Lord, You tell us everything is beautiful in its time, and I ask for forgiveness that I have too often failed to see the very things You set in front of me, to reveal Your glory and beauty. May You change our hearts to see You, in the very creation that You brought to us for enjoyment, to help us see more of what You are like. So I pray for change, for hearts turned toward You, and the beauty of Your Son, Jesus in whose name I pray.
