Picture yourself walking down a road, the wind in your face. It's a strong wind, and it feels like it takes quite a bit of effort to walk into the wind. So you turn around and start walking with the wind, and it feels so calm. You almost can't tell there is a breeze, all because you are walking with it, instead of against it. That's the way it is with God. He never changes, yet at times, we are walking with Him, feeling at peace, and intent on seeing the beauty around us. Other times we are not walking in His direction, but instead are fighting the way His Spirit is prompting us to go, like walking against a very strong wind. Would God reveal Himself to us even in the wind? Well, if you think that is impossible, then you are limiting a limitless God. I am in the process of reading Joel, and the prophet is speaking what the Spirit reveals to Him is a stubborn people, walking against God, and doing their own thing. He cites destruction and punishment that has never been known before. It is called: " Indeed, the Day of the Lord is terrible and dreadful - who can endure it?" But then he is told to declare: "Even now - this is the Lord's declaration - turn to Me with all your heart with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Tear your hearts, not just your clothes, and return to the Lord your God. For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, rich in faithful love, and He relents from sending disaster." Joel 2: 11b-13 Our Lord, God, is filled with mercy, but He is also just, and will send punishment for those who willingly continue to walk against Him. So check the direction of the wind today, and pray that our Lord will show you the way in which you are to take - His way. He says, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
Our Father in Heaven. Please forgive us for resisting Your Spirit, and help us to know Your leading and faithfully follow You instead of our own desires, for our desire is to please You. I pray to You, Father, for Pam, who is preparing to undergo surgery. She has been sick for quite some time now, and I pray that You will guide the surgeon's and the caregivers, to bring her back to a place where she is free from discomfort and illness. May Your will be done, I pray in Jesus name.
