Imagine learning but never quite getting the things you learned. You study, you read, and yet it seems like the information just keeps draining out of you as fast as it goes in. Fortunately, it's not like that when we study and learn. We understand at some point, and realize all the more, of what we had been learning. Something seems to just click when we put it all together. I had been told about Jesus even as a young boy, and had been taken to church. I remember learning the verse: John 3:16, yet I really never knew what it meant. It's the one that I memorized first, after all, we were told to memorize it, and I could recite it well. When I became a believer however, all that changed. The verse I had memorized from my youth now made perfect sense. So what made the change. I was to learn that Spiritual things are spiritually discerned, and could only be understood fully by the Spirit given to us at Salvation. Jesus was asked a question about why He spoke to the people in parables: " He answered them, 'Because the secrets of the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but it has not been given to them. For whoever has, more will be given to him, and he will have more than enough. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. For this reason I speak to them in parables, because looking they do not see, and hearing they do not listen or understand." Matthew 13:11-13 So if you are struggling to understand scripture, try listening to the Holy Spirit, who will explain all things to you. There is a mystery to the scriptures, but this mystery is only to those who do not believe. For the rest, it is the message of the Father, who loves us so much that He gave His Son to die for us, and whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. And he will understand, for the things given will be spiritual, and the Spirit will explain all things to us.
Lord, please give us ears to hear spiritual things. Give us eyes to see spiritual happening. Give us a heart that seeks You only. I would like to lift up two ladies to You today, who need Your comfort, the comfort only You can give at times like this: Pam, who is heading to surgery today. Please give her comfort and healing and renewal of health. The other, Lord, is Carolyn, who needs to hear from You. She seeks answers only You can give, so please speak to her heart, and comfort her, I pray for these in Jesus name.
