The Journey

June 23, 2017

I love trees, and my wife ordered a Mimosa tree after seeing a very large one near where we live. It is beautiful.  We ordered these little seedlings, for they grow about three feet per year.  I was thinking about the small seed that little plant started from, and how a tree that big could develop and have a root system big enough to sustain it.  There is an interesting fact about plants, especially how a tiny seed starts to put down roots. I read once that the seed's first job is to anchor, and so a first root grows from that seed to extend downward for anchoring. If the seed takes root it can go down twelve, thirty, forty meters. The results are  extremely powerful. The tree's roots can swell and split bedrock, and move gallons of water daily for years, much more efficiently than any pump yet invented by man. That little sprout can grow and will grow into a very large tree, that can send roots where my pick ax cannot even break through.  We you think of it, our Christian lives are like a tree, and we too, have to be rooted. The deeper we are rooted in Christ, the more we can survive the storms of life that threaten to uproot us. Jeremiah 17:7-8 says, "The man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed. He will be like a tree planted by water: it sends it roots out toward a stream, it doesn't fear when heat comes, and its foliage remains green. It will not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit."  This tree produces the wonderful fruit of love - God's love, and will never stop producing as long as we remain connected to the  Root, our Savior. No matter what is happening above ground, our root will keep firmly anchored to Christ, and we will weather whatever comes to us.

Lord, help us to keep anchored to You. When the storms of life bend us to the point we think we will break, remind us that Your strength will hold us. Lord, forgive us for taking You so for granted, and please restore our hearts to You. Please continue to be with Kim, Pam, Mike S., Rheba, Harriet, Carolyn, and Lord, we humble ourselves to You in prayer and seek Your face. May we turn from our wicked ways, so that You will hear our prayers, and will forgive our sins and heal our land. Thank You for Your great love, and I lift all my dear brothers and sisters to You in the name of Jesus.
